LMNT is an electrolyte drink mix that claims to contain “everything you need and nothing you don’t.” LMNT also claims to be “keto-friendly” and free of “dodgy” ingredients. However, LMNT recently acknowledged that its drink mixes actually contain approximately 300 to 450 milligrams per serving of maltodextrin, a highly processed food additive that may not be compatible with keto diets.

Maltodextrin is commonly used as a thickener or filler in processed foods. Research suggests that “consumption of the food additive maltodextrin may be a risk factor for the inflammatory bowel disease-prone population, as well as a factor promoting chronic low-grade intestinal inflammation leading to metabolic abnormalities in the general population.”
